Use mentions to get someone’s attention in Teams

To get someone’s attention in a channel conversation or a chat, @mention them. Just type @ before their name and then select them from the menu that appears.

They receive a notification, which they can select to go directly into the point in the conversation where they were mentioned.

Get one person’s attention

  1. Type a message in a reply or start a new conversation.
  2. Type @ and the person’s name.
  1. Select the person’s name you want to mention.
  1. Finish your message and click Send.

Note: You can also mention someone simply by typing their name. Start by capitalizing the first letter and as you continue to type the name, a list of people will show for you to choose from.

Get an entire team or channel’s attention

  1. Type a message in a reply or start a new conversation.
  2. Type @team or @channel.
  3. Select the team or channel you want to mention.
  1. Finish your message then click Send.
