Recover deleted files in SharePoint

When you accidentally delete or someone else removed a document in SharePoint, the document just moves to the Recycle Bin.

To restore a document from the Recycle bin, follow these steps:

  1. On SharePoint, click Recycle bin.

  2. Choose the folder or file that you wish to restore.

  3. Click Restore.

Note: The deleted file stays in the Recycle bin for only 93 days after which it gets deleted.

Recovering deleted SharePoint files from the Second-stage recycle bin

Here’s how to restore a deleted file from the Second-stage recycle bin:

  1. Navigate to Recycle bin then click Second-stage recycle bin.
  2. Select the file or folder that you want to restore then click Restore.

Note: Only administrators will have access to this, and deleted files will stay here for 14 days then it will get deleted permanently.
