How to Zip and Unzip files

To zip is to compress a file or folder. This takes up less storage space and can be transferred to other computers more quickly than uncompressed files.

How to zip a file or folder

  1. Locate the file or folder that you want to zip.
  1. Right-click the file or folder, hover over to Send to, then click Compressed (zipped) folder.

The zipped file will be stored in the same location. To view options like renaming the folder, right-click then select Rename. Type the new name for the zipped file.

How to extract (unzip) zipped files or folders

Locate the zipped file or folder that you want to extract or unzip then do the following:

  1. To unzip a single file or folder: Open the zipped folder, then drag the file or folder from the zipped folder to a new location.

  1. To unzip all the contents of the zipped folder: Right-click the folder, then select Extract All.

  1. You can choose to which folder you wish to save the extracted file or folder by clicking Browse. Once destination is selected, click Extract.
