How to reset password using self-service password reset

If you can’t access your work or school account (forgot password, never got a password from your organization, or have been locked out of account), you can use your security info and your mobile device to reset your password.

How to reset or unlock your password for a work or school account

  1. Sign in to your account. Go to https://www.office.com/ on your browser.
  1. Type your work or school email address and click Next, then click Forgot my password.

  1. You will be redirected to https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com/. Type your email address and the CAPTCHA to continue then click Next.

Note: Depending on how your administrator has set up your organization, some of these verification options might not be available. In this example, we can see that it only has an option to answer security questions.

  1. Type your new password then click Finish. Make sure to create a strong password, which usually consists of 8 to 16 characters, including upper and lowercase, at least one number, and at least one special character.
