Download public folders in Cached Exchange Mode

You are here:
< All Topics

You can access the public folders that are displayed in the Favorites folder under Public Folders when you don’t have a connection to your mail server or are working offline.

What is Cached Exchange Mode

With Chanced Exchange Mode, Outlook no longer depends on continuous network connectivity. When a user is connected, Outlook continuously updates users’ mailbox so that the mailboxes are kept up to date.

If a user disconnects from the network, e.g., by moving to an area without Wi-Fi access, the user can continue to access the last available email data.

How to download public folders in Cached Exchange Mode

  1. Click File tab.
  1. Select Account Settings > Account Settings.
  1. On the dialog box under Email tab, select the Exchange Server email account then click Change.
  1. Click More Settings, then click the Advanced tab.
  1. Under Cached Exchange Mode Settings, check the Download Public Folder Favorites box.

Cached Exchange Mode is useful in the following situations for users who:

  • Frequently move in and out of connectivity.
  • Frequently work offline or without connectivity.
  • Have high-latency connections (greater than 500 ms) to Exchange Server or slow internet connections.
