How to add users to a private channel

Follow these steps to add a user to a private channel:

  1. Open the team where your private channel is located.
  2. Go to the private channel then click More options (…) > Add members. Note that the private channel has lock icon.
  3. Type the name of the user that you wish to add then click Add.

Cannot add user on a private channel

It is not possible to add people directly in a private channel without them being part of the general channel.

To add users in a private channel, make sure that they’re added to the main team first.

Here’s how to see the members in the main team:

  1. Click More options (…) > Manage team.
  2. Check Members and guests by clicking the dropdown button.

If the user’s name is not listed, manually add the user to the team.
